United States Department of Justice agents were at the
Village of Harvey police station looking through documents and investigating police officers as part of an investigation into claims of excessive use of force by the Harvey police. The
Department of Justice did not give a lot of details about the investigation but the U.S. Attorney's Office is also involved in the investigation. A spokesman for the Harvey Police claimed that the visit by the federal agents was part of "technical assistance" being given to the police but would not elaborate.
This is not the first time that federal agents have visited the
Village of Harvey Police Department. On December 9, 1998, we published a
post about a search warrant that was executed by federal agents.
We will keep our readers informed of any developments.
